Unique Features and Benefits

Product Information

Mosquito Barrier is a very strong liquid garlic made from potent garlic cloves. The garlic used in Mosquito Barrier is a powerful variety which has much more sulfur than the garlic found in grocery stores (in fact, our lab people refer to it as “super garlic”). Garlic has a natural sulfur which repels mosquitoes. Spraying garlic to keep insects away is not something new, farmers and master gardeners have been doing it for many generations. Now you can use this as well.  Use what the Pro’s use!

When you initially spray Mosquito Barrier it repels the mosquitoes & ticks. It is applied to the leaf surface of grass, ornamentals and lower leaves of the trees. The natural sulfur contained in garlic juice repels mosquitoes & ticks from the area by this juice. It also prevents entry of any neighbouring mosquitoes & ticks that may consider wandering in from next door. Within minutes the Mosquito Barrier is odourless to humans, but not to these pests. A mosquito’s sense of smell is about 10,000 times better than humans and the mosquitoes are able to locate humans because they detect the carbon dioxide given off by us. Mosquito Barrier masks the carbon dioxide odour while also triggering a defence warning to them that this is not a good area to be in. If they can’t find you, they can’t bite you and they fly elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes when use as directed! There are no poisons or harmful chemicals in Mosquito Barrier. Just 100% pure garlic juice with some (0.7%) food grade preservatives included.

Don’t spray your dog or cat. Instead, cut all tall grass and spray liberally on grass, shrubs, plants and tree trunks in the yard. Spray the yard completely. Also, be sure to spray the sides of buildings, tree trunks and wooden fence posts to a height of 2 meters. If there is a heavy infestation, repeat in 5 days and then every two weeks thereafter. That should be sufficient to keep the pests out of the yard.

Yes. Use Mosquito Barrier at the same labelled rate as you would for mosquitoes. Rake all leaves and keep your grass cut short. Start applying in May and into June when the nymphs are most active. Ticks are active from 4 degree Celsius. Be aware from this temperature and warmer.

No. Mosquito Barrier does not work when sprayed on people to keep insects away. Mosquito Barrier only removes feeding areas.

Yes, they can and there is no cure. However, it is rarely fatal. By all means, check with your vet if your pet appears ill or feverish.

Yes. Mix a solution of 5-6% of Mosquito Barrier and water. Spray the bottom half of your animal (horses, cows, and other grazers). This includes the tail, belly and legs.

No. Many studies have been done on this subject. It has never been scientifically shown that eating garlic will repel mosquitoes. Spraying garlic on foliage does keep mosquitoes from the sprayed area however.

Put the lid on tight, store it in a cool place and it should last for about two years. In a refrigerator at 40 degrees, it will last several years. Do not let it freeze as the packaging may break from expansion.

Use 30 – 40 ml of Mosquito Barrier for each liter of liquid. This would work out to 120-160 ml of product for a full sprayer of this size. If infested you may double up on this amount. Wait 3 – 4 days before re-applying.

Yes, for normal sized yards a pump style of sprayer is recommended. For larger yards, a back pack style of sprayer is more convenient. They are available at hardware and nursery outlets or at our on-line store, www.ucorganic.ca.

Turn off the lights and let them settle on the ceiling (or wall), then flip on the lights and vacuum them up. Sleep in the breeze of a fan.

Mosquito misting systems generally are on a timer and are programmed to go off in the early morning, at sundown and in the early evening. Most spray a “solution” which kills bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. On windy days they can blow the “solution” onto your neighbor’s property. If your neighbors are allergic to the “solution”, you may be facing legal problems. Mosquito Barrier is best sprayed at sundown when no bees or butterflies are out. As well, if the wind blows – Mosquito Barrier won’t poison anyone or anything.

You will normally use between a pint and a quart at each spraying, you may need to spray for 3 or 4 times during the Summer mosquito season. Also, you can save it for next year! Put a cap on and put in cool place and it will be good for next season. Many customers share with their neighbours.

With low mosquito activity and early in the season the 3% solution of Mosquito Barrier works fine. For heavier infestations you may increase the strength anywhere from a 4% to 5% solution or more. Your best method would be to spray first with a 3% solution, if you still notice some infestation then increase the strength. Once under control, decrease the solution back to 3%.

Do not spray if rain is predicted for the next 24 to 48 hours. After spraying and having about a 48 hour dry-spell window the Mosquito Barrier will generally be okay even through 2 or 3 moderate rain showers. Best way to determine when to spray again is to watch for mosquitoes. If you see them returning – it’s time to spray again.

Permethrin has been licensed by the EPA since 1977 and has a few warnings in it’s use: It kills bees and fish and many beneficial insects. It cannot be sprayed near streams, lakes, fish ponds, etc. Many sellers of products containing this chemical are often shy about telling consumers about what all it kills aside from mosquitoes. Wind drift is another major concern.

Yes. Garlic does not bother horses at all but many horses are finicky and may not eat the grass. Some horse owners actually feed garlic (in liquid and solid forms) to their horses.

6 teaspoonfuls (5 ml) make an ounce (30 ml), 8 ounces (250 ml) make a cup.

Start at your house or the main area you wish to protect then work out. As you spray the Mosquito Barrier, you want to move the mosquitoes away from your premises, not trap them in. The objective is to treat mosquito adults’ daytime resting sites, so work FROM the house. We like to spray side to side and then up and down for full coverage. Spray to wet the plants similar to a morning dew.

Reduce any breeding sources, ex. standing water and damaged gutters. Removing harbourage sites prior to treatment (ex. Leaf refuse). Stay diligent in removing standing water in between sprays.

Keep grass mowed. Clear tall brush away from your home. Create a 1 meter barrier of wood chips or gravel between lawns and wooded areas to restrict tick migration. Keep play areas away from yard edges and forests. Discourage unwelcome animals such as deer, raccoons and even stray dogs from entering your yard. Ticks do not like sunlight and dry areas. Trim the lower branches of trees as well to let the sunlight in!

A good spray job will suppress the mosquito populations well but may not be 100% elimination. This suppression will reduce some disease risk but not all.
